A QR Code Time Clock With No App

Passkey Punch is a QR code time clock that works in the phone's browser, with no app to download. Employees scan the sign at your site, the phone's location confirms they're there, and they confirm with a passkey using their face, fingerprint or passcode. A photo of the code or a shared PIN won't clock anyone in.

How it works

  1. Open the phone camera and point it at the sign. Tap the link.
  2. Allow location if asked. (Managers can turn off the location check for a specific employee.)
  3. Tap the button and confirm with your face, fingerprint or passcode. You're clocked in or out.

Going to lunch? Check "Heading out for lunch" before tapping. Step-by-step help is on the help page.

Tap an NFC sticker instead

Prefer a tap to a scan? You can put the same link on an NFC sticker at the entrance. Staff tap their phone on the sticker and it works just like scanning the QR sign, with the same location and passkey checks. You write the sticker yourself from Chrome on an Android phone, or with a free NFC app on an iPhone.

Why a QR code alone isn't enough

A static QR code can be photographed and passed around, and a QR code plus a PIN still lets people share the PIN. Passkey Punch adds two checks: the phone has to be at your site, and the person has to unlock their own passkey.

FAQ

Do employees need to download an app?

No. Scanning the sign opens a page in the phone's browser.

Can someone clock in from home with a photo of the QR code?

No. The phone's location has to be at your site, and they still need their own passkey.

What if an employee's phone doesn't have Face ID?

They can use a fingerprint or their phone's passcode. No smartphone? They can clock in on their own tablet or computer instead.

How do lunch breaks and missed punches work?

Staff check "Heading out for lunch" before punching out. If they forget, they're asked at the next clock-in. For a missed punch, a manager adds a correction and the original record stays.

Do I need a kiosk or tablet?

No. Employees use their own phones.
